Bachelor Degree in Legal Studies
Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies The Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies program is designed for students interested in the study of law and legal issues or for those interested in a social sciences-oriented degree that emphasizes governance, civil and criminal processes, legal systems, and the theory and philosophy of justice. Throughout the program, students learn to understand legal principles; demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of law over time; identify the key issues and concepts in the United States Constitutional framework; understand criminal law foundations, practice, and cases; use case methodology to gain understanding of legal concepts and issues; research, develop, and defend legal positions through professional written communications; analyze the processes, ethics, and procedures of the modern legal practice, and more.
Bachelor of Science in Legal Assistant The purpose of the Bachelor of Science Degree Program with a Legal Assistant Major is to prepare students with the skills necessary for entry-level positions as part of a legal team in law firms, banks, savings and loan associations, government agencies, insurance companies, and title companies. The legal assistant usually works under the supervision of an attorney and assumes part of the attorney’s workload, freeing the attorney for tasks that only attorneys are qualified to perform. The students in this program will have the opportunity to select from a range of legal specializations, which will more fully prepare the student for employment in an area that is of interest to the student. This program is designed to be an extension of the Associate in Science Degree Program with a Major. This is not a pre-law program.
Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies/Health Care The students will be provided with a solid foundation for further study in graduate and legal education as well as employment in the health care field. Students explore cutting-edge topics in the health care field, including bioethics, managed care, medical liability, insurance and benefit coverage, and policy development. Those completing this emphasis area will be in a position to seek employment in health care law, or pursue their education further. Students who have earned an AAS, AS, AA, BA, or BS degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college should take the Advanced Start BSLS program. Degrees and credits considered to be remedial, occupational, or specialized may not be accepted for transfer under this option. Individuals who plan to attend law school should earn an Advanced Start BSLS. The program offers a solid foundation in theory and application of the law, and a wide choice of elective courses that introduce many of the concepts covered in law school. Other students who wish to enhance or change their present career can take this program and customize it for a particular business or industry.
Bachelor of Business Administration in Legal Studies The Bachelor of Business Administration in Legal Studies program prepares students to enter the world of business and business management with a strong understanding of legal issues and how they apply to the business world. The program uses actual case studies of legal issues in business including contracts, lawsuits, financial management, and ethical considerations. Students will have practical experience in completing legal research, writing legal documents, and preparing advisory reports on legal issues to managers and directors of small or large companies.
