Bachelor Of K-12 Education

 

Bachelors Degree in K-12 Special Education

The special education program at Black Hills State University is a blend of both on-campus and online courses. This program prepares students to become a certified special education teacher in grades K-12. A degree in special education consists of special education core classes and teaching core classes. For teachers who have already completed a teaching degree and are currently teaching, BHSU also offers a special education endorsement online.

 

Bachelor of Science in Middle Level Education
The Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education degree program prepares teachers to work with children in grades six through nine with two academic concentrations. Participants of the program choose two of the following concentrations: Language Arts, Science, or Math. The program is offered as an on-campus program as well as through Wachovia Partnership East (WPE) as a completely online degree through the Virtual Consortium. This nationally award-winning program prepares graduates for a career of teaching young adolescents.

 

Bachelor of Arts in English for Secondary Teachers

The Bachelor of Arts in English for Secondary Teachers is a degree offered by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in conjunction with the College of Education. It is created for students who want to build career in teaching Englsih subjects in grades 7 - 12. The students in this program are prepared for work in public educations. Students/applicants are responsible for contacting their state department of education for certification requirements and program approval. It is also recommended to consult the Grand Canyon University Catalog and academic advisor on current policies and procedures inherent in a teacher credentialing program.

 

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Secondary Teachers

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Secondary Teachers is a degree offered by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in conjunction with the College of Education. It is created to prepare students for a career in teaching Mathematics in grades 7 - 12. Graduates of this program will have the opportunity to work in the sphere of public education. Students/applicants are responsible for contacting their state department of education for certification requirements and program approval. The student/applicant should consult the Grand Canyon University Catalog and academic advisor to obtain information regarding current policies and procedures inherent in a teacher credentialing program.

 

Bachelors Degree in Middle School Education/Language Arts and Social Studies

English Language Arts and Reading Middle and Secondary bachelor degree program is designed to give students the spiritual, academic, professional and cross-cultural resources to be leaders in middle and secondary education classrooms around the world. Upon completion of this program students should be able to demonstrate the ability to create positive, productive classroom environments utilizing formal and informal settings and appropriate classroom management strategies. Also graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of professional roles and responsibilities.

 

Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood & Multicultural Education
The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Multicultural Education Program (ECME) is designed to develop the required competencies and become eligible to apply for licensure in Early Childhood Education, Birth to Grade 3, from the New Mexico Public Education Department. ECME students spend their freshman through senior years completing progressively more intensive course work relevant to the education of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and children in Kindergarten through Third Grade. In addition to considering multiple curricular approaches, the ECME program emphasizes the contextual dimensions of early childhood education, including diversity of culture, language, community, and economic status. Students who complete the program graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with ECME as their major.
