Associate of Applied Business in Legal Assistant

The Legal Assisting concentration is designed to provide the students with the skills and knowledge necessary to begin a career as a legal assistant. The duties of a legal assistant may include assisting with legal research, brief preparation, document preparation and other administrative duties that pertain to the legal environment. The Associate of Applied Business Degree in Legal Assisting emphasizes software proficiency, business skills and basic legal classes. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level employment in positions such as legal assistants and administrative assistants in a legal environment. With additional work experience and/or training, they may qualify for advancement to such positions as legal research assistants and paralegals.

 

Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies

The Associate of Science Paralegal Studies degree is designed to prepare students for paraprofessional positions in the legal field. Graduates of the program may either obtain an immediate position in the field, or choose to pursue further study. Student pursuing an AS degree in Paralegal Studies must obtain specific skill sets before being eligible for graduation. In addition to becoming familiar with basic principles of the law, students will also acquire analytical, technical, and communication skills On completion of the program, students will be able to apply legal research methods and techniques that are used in the practice of law; evaluate the importance of secondary sources in legal research; distinguish how advice, persuasion, and advocacy enter into legal research; demonstrate knowledge of the nature and function of law, and the principles and concepts as they relate to the paralegal and apply critical legal thinking and analytical skills to resolve typical situations or facts, and much more.

 

Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Science

The Bachelor of Applied Studies in Social Sciences provides its students with a thorough basic understanding of the following subjects in the social sciences and humanities: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Global Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The program also emphasizes the methods used in the social sciences, especially empirical social research and statistics.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Administration of Justice

The Administration of Justice program involves the study of the theory and practice of law enforcement, police work, the court and corrections systems. These core and elective courses provide the student with a base of knowledge and proficiency in the general area. Law enforcement, whether as a line officer, deputy sheriff, marshal or state traffic officer, offers a rewarding opportunity to serve society.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Services Administration
In recent years, the emergency services professions have become extremely competitive. Demands for personnel to further their education in order to attain promotion and keep up with technical advances are inherent in most positions. These professions include police and fire administration, public utilities, dispatch, and emergency operations. Within Emergency Services Administration program you will complete 15 units/hours in four areas: ethical reasoning, creative and humanistic inquiry, scientific reasoning and inquiry, social and political foundations, and cultural understanding.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Social and Community Service

The Bachelor of Applied Science with emphasis in Social and Community Service is designed for students with an associate degree from community college to supply the education and skills to enter into careers in government, private, or public agencies whose focus is on public service. In this program students concentrates on Social and Community Service. The curriculum helps you to acquire a general knowledge of management, organizational, and policy issues while advancing your professional communication, computer, and quantitative skills.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Law Enforcement

Are you interested in entering the field of law enforcement? Then consider a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Law Enforcement concentration. It will give you the basic knowledge or foundation needed to pursue a career in law and/or regulations and by-law enforcement. Once you graduate, there are many career choices available to you.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Psychology provides students with a firm grounding in the methods, history, and content areas of the discipline. Graduates are prepared for graduate study leading to advanced degrees in psychology or for paraprofessional positions requiring some application of research or human service delivery skills. The core curriculum covers the research methods used in the scientific study of behavior, and surveys theories, findings, and historical applications in a variety of psychology subfields.

 

Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice program is designed to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, courts, the military, and with civilian security contractors. The curriculum of this program provides the multi-disciplinary education necessary for success in today's diverse environment where law enforcement professionals are expected to deal with crime and disorder in sophisticated ways. Students can study and participate in classes any time, and from anywhere in the world. Courses in this program are provided in a sequence that enables you to graduate in four years of full-time study.

 

Associate in Applied Science in Human Services

The purpose of the Human Services Associate Program is to prepare the graduate for entry-level employment in one of the diverse human service programs such as mental health, mental retardation, troubled youth, the aging, case management, and case technician positions in child protective services. The core curriculum consists of a general program of course work in the behavioral sciences, natural sciences and liberal arts, along with human services theory courses and skills supplemented by field work experience in an appropriate agency or institution.

 

Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice

This program prepares the student for entry into the field of police work and related occupations. Criminal justice vocations have evolved from jobs with minimal requirements to jobs requiring complex knowledge and skills. This curriculum gives the student theory, principles, and techniques employed by criminal justice agencies and police units. The study of the law as it relates to criminal justice agencies, human behavior, government, and communications along with specialized course work comprise the curriculum. Graduates from the AAS in Criminal Justice program may seek job opportunities on the federal, state, county, and municipal levels. With experience, the CJ graduate may move into administrative or supervisory positions in corrections, security and/or law enforcement. With a KCTCS Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice, General Option, you may transfer this degree to University of Louisville and complete the Bachelor of Science Administration of Justice Degree completely online. These courses will also transfer to Eastern Kentucky University and Campbellsville University toward baccalaureate degrees in criminal justice.
