MBA - Economics

Economics, both on a global and national scale, is an ever present and important element of everyday life. Those looking to pursue a degree in this field will find jobs in a range of corporations that are looking to refine and improve their strategies in the business market. Armed with the knowledge this degree can provide, many students will find a variety of careers available to them in the business world that allow them to pursue their interest in markets while helping businesses to be more successful and profitable.

Students will find that the majority of their MBA training in economics reflects traditional economics training but with business specific courses allowing students to more easily apply the concepts to their practical, real-world careers after graduation. Primary courses will be taught in macroeconomics, game theory, urban economics, information economics, trade and much more to give students a firm background in the theories and principles of modern economics. Additional coursework will be available in basic and advanced business practices that will allow students to translate their work from the classroom to the office. Graduates of an MBA program in economics should emerge not only with the ability to understand how the financial world works but be able to take that knowledge and apply it to a specific business. How long it takes to complete an MBA program will vary by the student, whether or not courses are taken full or part time, and the learning institution itself. On average, however, MBA programs take about two years to complete.

What salary graduates of an MBA program in economics will make will depend largely on what area of study they choose to specialize in, where they live, and their previous experience in the field. While there is no guarantee of salary, many MBA level graduates in the field report annual salaries of $95,000 on average. These earnings come from careers in a wide range of industries from health care to traditional business. Positions may be available in business development, consulting, economic analysis and a range of other business related fields that may or may not be directly related to economics. Many graduates will find themselves poised to take on executive level positions for which they previously hadnít be qualified for. Like most business fields, economics can be a valuable and in-demand field to pursue, especially at the MBA level.
