Those already working in criminal justice in fields like law enforcement administration, correctional administration, forensic science and security management or those who are looking to start a new career will find a whole new range of jobs and opportunities for advancement with an MBA degree. The MBA program in Criminal Justice is a relatively new addition to many MBA programs as educational opportunities reflect changes and growth happening in the criminal justice field and quality management and administration becomes in indispensable part of any criminal justice system. Graduates will be able to form part of this administration field and work towards improving and ensuring that others working to enforce laws, manage criminals and process information do so professionally and competently.

An MBA program in Criminal Justice is designed to prepare you for the unique challenges you'll face in managing people from a wide range of backgrounds, dealing with changes to policies and laws and handling high stress and sometimes delicate issues. Courses at the MBA level will take students through a variety of both general and specific courses designed to gear the degree to personal interests and needs. Most programs will require courses in business administration, cultural awareness, public policy and intervention procedures, but many will also offer more specialized courses in juvenile criminal justice, forensic science, corrections, and probation for those who are interested in pursuing those fields. The length of the program will vary depending on the school and can take anywhere from ten months to two years. Those taking courses part time may find that it takes longer, but allows them to gain experience while working towards a higher degree.

Graduates of MBA programs in criminal justice will be prepared to work as administrators in a range of criminal justice fields. Students who have already been working in law enforcement may find that they are now qualified for more senior positions and can more easily advance their careers upon graduation. Administrative and managerial jobs that a criminal justice MBA qualifies you for can be found in correctional facilities, juvenile detention centers, courthouses, law enforcement agencies and a variety of other places dedicated to law and crime prevention and control. With more advanced jobs often comes larger salaries, and in some cases the increase can be particularly significant.
