Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy

The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy is a liberal arts degree, which exposes students to Eastern, Western and contemporary philosophers and their studies. Throughout the program, students study myth, ritual and issues of ethics and morality; learn to think critically and objectively, to write clearly and effectively, and to develop creative solutions to unique situations. Students graduating from this program apply their skills and abilities in professions requiring a high level of analytical thought such as those in "think tanks" and legal professions. In addition to general Philosophy concentration, students may pursue a concentration in Ethics, which is becoming an increasingly important concern in different fields of endeavor.

Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies degree program is focused on the world's most volatile and controversial region. The curriculum of the program addresses the political, religious, military, economic, and social/cultural issues of the Middle East. From a wide variety of courses ranging from holy wars to a city-study on Jerusalem, students have the opportunity to choose areas and topics of the Middle East of most interest to them. On completion of the program, graduates will have substantial knowledge in comparative politics, Middle East history, politics, and culture.

Master of Arts in Humanities

The Master of Arts in Humanities is based on the great ideas, works, and thinkers that have defined civilization as embodied in the “great books” tradition established at the University of Chicago and now in use at other leading institutions such as the University of Notre Dame, Boston University, and Columbia University. The curriculum of the program addresses humankind’s fundamental topics through study of courses in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The core courses that constitute this degree program include Humanities: Research, Study, and Use; the Ancient World; Antiquity and Medieval World; The Renaissance; Beginnings of the Enlightenment; and Enlightenment and the Modern World.

Associate in Liberal Arts in Humanities

The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with option in Humanities program is designed to give students an opportunity to explore various disciplines before selecting a specific career area, this option can lead to a baccalaureate degree in history, literature, philosophy, religion or the arts. An A.A. Liberal Arts degree with a humanities option can lead to careers in education, the arts, communications, law and many other non-technical fields. The program is available to be completed on-campus or completely online.

Associate of Arts in Philosophy

Courses in Introduction to Western Philosophy

This class is an examination of both individual philosophers and philosophical eras. Here you will be focused on Ancient, Modern and Contemporary philosophy in an attempt to develop an understanding of the basics of philosophy both past and present. In the class students will use books intended to introduce philosophy and texts drawn directly from the history of philosophy. You will begin your study with the origins of philosophical thought, spend some time with Socrates and Plato and then move on to consider modern and contemporary philosophy.

Associate of Arts in Humanities & Social Science

This Associate of Arts degree in Humanities and Social Science is designed to give the student a solid foundation in the Liberal Arts similar to the first two years of the curriculum at a four-year liberal arts college or university. It provides a basis for further study leading to a bachelor degree in a variety of liberal arts areas, among them: psychology, sociology, education, human services, English, history, philosophy, communication and the arts.
