Associates Degree in Arts

The Associate Degree is a 60-credit-hour degree designed to use as a transfer degree. Students who wish to complete a four-year bachelor’s degree would first complete the two-year Associate in Arts degree. The Associate Degree contains the 48 hours of general education courses required by any college in Kentucky that awards the bachelor’s degree. The Core Transfer enables students to complete the two-year Associate degree while at the same time taking classes that will count toward the bachelor’s degree. This degree is usually awarded to those whose major is in the field of social sciences or humanities. It is also awarded to General Studies students, those who decline to select an area of concentration.

 

Courses in Drawing for Beginners

The course is designed for people interested in learning how to draw or increasing their current knowledge in the field of art and illustrating. The course covers such topics as paper types, drawing styles, rendering techniques, and the basic principal of perspective, layout, design, lighting, volume, and space. The participants of the course will explore human brain and discover how it functions to create art, memorizing and interpreting the world around and keeping everything slightly straight in the process. On completion of the course, the students will gain a solid foundation and understanding of the basics to drawing.

 

Courses in European Art
This course introduces students to the most important works of European art on a personal and familiar level. The participants learn where to find the works, how to get the most out of the viewing experience, and receive a wealth of commentary and interesting historical information based on the instructor's deep love of art and culture and extensive travel experiences. This course is valuable for anyone who plans a trip to Europe or just wants a better understanding of European art, for the latter offers an overwhelming array of choices.

 

Associate of Arts in Fine Art
The Associate in Arts degree in Fine Arts is designed for students who are interested in transferring to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor's degree with a major in art. It provides basic liberal arts foundation. Moreover, this program gives the student a solid base in studio art and art history which is essential for those interested in entering a variety of art professions.

 

Courses in Art Appreciation
The maim aim of this course is to examine art from the viewpoint of the artist, the culture, and the viewer. Our students will be able to explore the formal characteristics of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art; to examine the various media that artists use to express their concepts. This course is designed to develop a vocabulary of artistic terms that can be utilized when discussing works of art; discuss the observable effects/results of the events of history on the art of that history. You will be able to compare and contrast works of art and architecture; develop a greater understanding of artistic contributions to our global society.

 

Master of Arts in Arts Administration

Randolph Community College offers the Associate in Arts program. Students who complete the program will receive an Associate in Arts degree and be able to transfer to constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina with junior status. The program includes general education core with courses in English Composition, Humanities/ Fine Arts, Social/ Behavioral Sciences, and Natural Sciences/ Mathematics.
