Bachelor of Applied Arts in Humanities
The Humanities are about people, culture, and ideas. The Bachelor of Applied Studies in Humanities ensures that students are initiated into the rich cultural legacy we share as human beings. The core curriculum includes: African Studies, American Indian & Native Studies, American Studies, Center for the Book, Classics, Foreign Languages, History, English Literature, Philosophy, Religious Studies and Women's Studies.

 

Bachelor of Applied Arts in Communication Arts

Students dedicated to building professional careers in print media, music, linguistics, journalism, and the closely-related fields of public relations, advertising and organizational communications, will find a Bachelor of Applied Studies in Communication and Arts program to meet their needs and to challenge their skills and interests. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to pursue careers as communications professionals in the media-rich communications industries and corporations. Within this program they will be taught in the following: Art & Art History; Communications Studies; Creative & Nonfiction Writing; Dance; Journalism & Mass Communication; Linguistics; Music; Rhetoric; and Theatre Arts.

 

Bachelor of Arts in English

The Bachelor of Arts in English is a liberal arts degree. The program teaches students to organize their thoughts and ideas and express them with eloquence and clarity as they explore English, American, and World Literature. Students graduating from this program apply their skills and abilities in professions requiring exceptional communication skills such as public relations staff, editor, writer, desktop publisher, reporter, legal assistant, and research assistant. In the course of the program, students also learn how to demonstrate the ability to effectively express ideas and evidence in writing; conduct an analysis of a literary work and discuss the history and characteristics of various periods and genres; analyze written materials and examine the relevance of multiple interpretations in a diverse society, and more.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies degree program is focused on the world's most volatile and controversial region. The curriculum of the program addresses the political, religious, military, economic, and social/cultural issues of the Middle East. From a wide variety of courses ranging from holy wars to a city-study on Jerusalem, students have the opportunity to choose areas and topics of the Middle East of most interest to them. On completion of the program, graduates will have substantial knowledge in comparative politics, Middle East history, politics, and culture.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy

The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy is a liberal arts degree, which exposes students to Eastern, Western and contemporary philosophers and their studies. Throughout the program, students study myth, ritual and issues of ethics and morality; learn to think critically and objectively, to write clearly and effectively, and to develop creative solutions to unique situations. Students graduating from this program apply their skills and abilities in professions requiring a high level of analytical thought such as those in "think tanks" and legal professions. In addition to general Philosophy concentration, students may pursue a concentration in Ethics, which is becoming an increasingly important concern in different fields of endeavor.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Religion

The Bachelor of Arts in Religion is a social science degree. Students in this program examine Eastern and Western religions, both historical and contemporary. They study the cultural, political, and spiritual aspects of religion while being exposed to the theological tenets of religious thought. Graduates of this program are inclined toward professions that include aspects of human services and pastoral assistance. Throughout the program, students learn to identify and summarize the universal and unique forms of religious expression such as sacred places, symbols, ethics, and rituals; describe the concepts that comprise a religious worldview such as the creation of the world, good and evil, salvation, and the meaning of suffering; discuss the various political, social, and other forms of religious life that are evident in different societies; synthesize knowledge of the cultural, social, scientific and religious aspects of society, and more.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts

Offered through College of Arts and Sciences, the Communication Arts program provides students with essential communication skills necessary for success in our society. The communication discipline focuses on the understanding and application of theory required for effective oral and written discourse. A major in Communication Arts provides a firm foundation for careers requiring strong communication skills, while a minor in Communication Arts complements and strengthens virtually every selected field of study. The Communication Arts can be studies through the BA and BAS programs. Moreover, students can choose an emphasis in Mass Media in the Communication Arts major.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies

The degree program educates students in the academic fields of Old and New Testaments, Church History and Christian Spirituality, and Theology as those fields relate to the Church, the Academy and the personal and spiritual formation of the student. An educational emphasis is put on a passionate pursuit of spiritual development that is informed by a critical assessment of biblical, theological and historical issues, that is in conversation with a broad spectrum of viewpoints and that is filled with a tolerance born out of respect for diversity and humility.

 

Bachelor of Arts in English Literature & Culture
