| Legal Administrative Assistant
This specialist program is intended for graduates of the Administrative Assistant program as well as experienced administrative assistants wishing to work in the legal field. Graduates of this program acquire the skills and knowledge to apply time management principles and to set priorities; create, edit, print, store and retrieve legal documents and correspondence using computers; perform legal administrative assistant duties and procedures in the areas of general law, litigation, convincing, family law, corporate procedures, and wills and estates.
Graduates may find employment in a variety of positions including junior legal administrative assistant or a legal office support employee in the following organizations: law firms, legal departments of large corporations, real estate companies, insurance firms, financial organizations and government agencies.
Program Specific 1) Successful completion of the Administrative Assistant Program or equivalent and the VCC Online Learner Success course OR 2) Minimum of one year of administrative assistant experience as verified by employer, with the following: -tested keyboarding speed of 50 gross words per minute for 5 minutes with a maximum of 5 errors on a computer -Grade 12 completion or equivalent -Completion of the Online Learner Success course
Certified course completion or experience using word processing software (MS Word) as verified by an employer
Applicants whose first language is other than English and who have not completed English 098/099, and who are presenting foreign documents equivalent to Grade 12, must complete an English Language Assessment
Seats are offered to applicants who have met all admission requirements, on a first-qualified, first-served basis
